03/31/03 Martin fourth in SBK Race One - Phillip Island

It was Neil Hodgson again who dominated race 1 and 2. Behind him team mate Xaus got the second spot in both races. Third place was split between two different riders. In race 1 Spanish rider Gregorio Lavila on his Suzuki GSX-R who appears to be improving with each event. In race 2 there was Pierfrancesco Chili on his privateer Ducati.
Once again it was a very good race for Steve Martin, on his Team Dfx Ducati 998 equipped with Pirelli tires. Martin gained a fourth spot in race 1 and a satisfactory ninth in race 2. These results allowed him to place fifth in the world results with a small margin over English rider Chris Walker.
Martin’s team mate, the Spanish Borja, did not do well in the Australian round, but Italian Mauro Borciani from the Dfx team, finished ninth and tenth in the two races, and climbed into the top ten in overall championship.
